Last night was Amaya's spelling B. She really hasn't studied, it's not like the movie Akeelah and The B. Really, how many words can one study. She reads all the time, and that seems to be enough for me! There were a mixture of 5th and 6th graders, with more 6th than 5th, and the three finalists were all 6 graders.
Amaya made it to the 3rd round, and got stumped on the word "DROLL".
I can honestly say that I don't even know what the word means, but she spelled it "D R O L".
"I'm sorry", said the announcer, and off the stage she went. No tears or anything. Such a trooper!
Each kid got a $5 gift card to The Bookman, a local bookstore. What a great gift to receive, and what a great event to be a part of. You just wanted to cheer each kid on. Such fun!!
So, it was a great experience, and both sets of grandparents went, both the boys went, and even Emily Sherriff came to cheer on her friends!!
Amaya and friend, Lauren were both in it. Lauren made it to the 4th round.
